The Public Works Department provides residential curb-side garbage collection through a pay-as-you-throw variable sized container program. The roll-out containers are provided by the City, and residents pay a monthly fee based on the size container they choose to use. The fees are $7 for a 40 gallon container, $13 for a 65 gallon container, and $17 for a 90 gallon container, as of June 2006. In May 2000, the City implemented a curb-side recycle program.
Residents will be required to place the rollout container and recycle bin at the curb for collection on designated day. All garbage which does not fit inside a closed rollout container must be placed in a City approved overflow bag, which can be purchased from City Hall. If no one in your household is physically able to roll the carts or carry recycle bins to the street for collection you may qualify for our Backdoor Garbage Service. Please mail in an application if you wish to receive this service.
Yard debris, brown goods, and appliances are also collected on designated days if placed at the curb. Click here to see items which will not be collected.
Commercial garbage collection is also available. Please contact Department for more information or you can mail in our Commercial Service application. All contractors are responsible for disposal of construction materials.
The Public Works Department is also responsible for the maintenance of public streets and properties, as well as, the Evergreen Cemetery. If grass or weeds get too high on your property, you will be sent a notice, the yard will be cut, and you will be charged for the work.
The Assistant Public Works Director aggressively enforces the Nuisance Abatement section of the City Code to preserve and protect public health. Click here to determine violations.
