Election Commission

The Chester City Council appoints three members to serve on the Election Commission to oversee Municipal Elections in accordance with State Election Laws. The City holds elections on the first Tuesday of May of each odd year. Council consists of a Mayor and eight Council Members who serve four year terms. Historic Preservation Commission

The Historic Preservation Commission has jurisdiction to review and approve or disapprove plans for any structure in a historic district or a structure in any district designated as a historic structure in the Zoning ordinance proposed to be constructed, altered, relocated, demolished, partially demolished or proposed to have the exterior architectural character altered. Applications may be obtained from the Chester County Planning Department. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission of the City of Chester is responsible for the reviewing proposed amendments to the Zoning Ordinance for the City of Chester including determination of whether the proposed amendment is in conformity with the comprehensive plan of the City. Meetings are normally held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.

The Zoning Board of Appeals is a five member board established by the City Council to address appeals of decisions of the Codes Administrator. The Board meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. if there are appeals to review.
